Trước khi đi đến cách nâng band speaking part 2, mình sẽ cho bạn một ví dụ cho dễ hiểu.

Digress có nghĩa là bạn rời bỏ chủ đề chính mình đang nói tạm thời. Nhưng bạn sẽ nghĩ, như vậy có nghĩa là đi lạc đề rồi nhỉ? Đúng, bạn sẽ đi lạc ra đề một tẹo, nhưng bạn đừng lo vì trong bản mô ta thang điểm chính thức của IELTS Speaking không có đề cập tới việc được lạc đề hay không.

ĐỀ Speaking part 2: Describe a vacation you recently went on.

Trả lời:

– Theo đề: I would like to talk about a vacation I took in Vietnam a couple of weeks ago. My parents flew me to the city of Dalat so I could steer clear of Covid-19 in my home country of Italy and take a break from work. The city is known as the land of mountains and hills, which is perfect for me because I’m an avid hiker.

– Lạc đề: According to accredited news outlets, it’s also the best place to avoid the current Covid-19 situation, which has shaken the world to its core because of how widespread and dangerous it is to humans. The pandemic has been upending daily life of hundreds of millions of citizens across the globe since its outbreak earlier this year. It’s been half a year since the virus was declared a public health emergency and doctors are still working to complete a clinical picture of Covid-19. I honestly feel so fortunate to have been in Vietnam when the biggest wave of Covid-19 hit my country. I got to visit beautiful attractions and dodged the pandemic at the same time. It was definitely a win-win situation.

– Quay lại đề: So here’s my itinerary when I was in Vietnam. I flew to Dalat from Hanoi, which is the capital of Vietnam. It was a quick 1-hour flight and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There was so many activities that I could take part in there but I only managed to squeeze a couple of them in my schedule because Vietnam was closing its borders, which means I had to leave as soon as possible. I went on a 6-hour hiking tour deep into the woods, and it was worth every second. I also had some real fun making coffee from scratch on a coffee farm owned by a mixed-ethnicity couple, the husband’s American and the wife’s H’mong. I had the best time of my life in Vietnam. So many friendships have been formed and connections made on that trip. If I could live there, I totally would!

Như bạn đã thấy, lúc đầu mình nói về chuyến đi du lịch của mình tới Việt Nam, rất theo sát đề. Sau đó mình lái qua đại dịch Covid-19 rồi lại lượn về câu hỏi bằng cách nói về hành trình và cảm nghĩ của mình về chuyến đi này.

Nâng band speaking part 2: Từ vựng trọng tâm (theo đề)

1. steer clear of: né tránh

Example sentence: His program steers clear of prickly local issues.

Translation: Chương trình của anh ta không đề cập tớ những vấn đề gây xúc phạm ở địa phương.

2. take a break: nghỉ ngơi

Example sentence: You’ve been looking after the kids all day, go take a break for a while.

Translation: Bạn giữ mấy đứa trẻ cả ngày rồi, đi nghỉ tý đi.

3. news outlet: nhà xuất bản báo

Example sentence: Spreading inaccurate information does not befit a news outlet.

Translation: Việc tung thông tin thất thiệt không hợp với nhà xuất bản báo chút nào.

4. shaken to the core: bị khủng hoảng, làm cho khủng hoảng.

Example sentence: Leonard was shaken to the core; he’d never seen or read anything like it.

Translation: Leonard bị khủng hoảng nặng; anh ta chưa bao giờ thấy hay đọc qua những thứ như vậy.

5. pandemic /pænˈdem.ɪk/ (n): đại dịch (lây lan ở nhiều quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ)

Example sentence: In some parts of the world malaria is still pandemic.

Translation: Ở một số nơi trên thế giới, sốt xuất huyết vẫn còn là đại dịch.

6. upend /ʌpˈend/ (v): làm đảo lộn

Example sentence: She upended the chessboard halfway through the game because she was losing.

Translation: Cô ta lật bàn cờ khi đang chơi giữa chừng vì cô ta đang thua.

7. win-win: có lợi đội bên

Example sentence: Flexible working hours are a win-win situation for employers and employees.

Translation: Giờ làm việc linh động đều có lợi cho cả chủ và nhân viên.

CHÚ Ý: Khi đi lạc đề các bạn đừng nên đi xa quá rồi đi luôn mà phải quay lại nói về chủ đề. Điểm mấu chốt ở đây là kéo dài thời gian những vẫn phải chứng tỏ với examiner rằng mình hiểu đề và hiểu những gì mình đang nói.
